Manager Legal – Port Moresby
Nambawan Super Limited (NSL) is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced legal professional for the position of Manager Legal, based at its Head Office in Port Moresby.
The successful candidate will provide high-level legal services and advice to Management, the CEO and the Trustee while protecting the interests of NSL members and supporting operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Legal & Advisory Services
- Provide legal advice, statutory interpretations and legal opinions to Management, the CEO and Trustee.
- Oversee contract management and legal documentation.
- Manage conveyancing matters, including commercial leases.
- Draft, review and negotiate legal agreements and documentation.
Litigation & Dispute Resolution
- Represent NSL in District, National and Supreme Court proceedings.
- Manage litigation and dispute-resolution matters.
- Use effective negotiation skills to resolve disputes and minimise litigation where possible.
Strategic & Financial Management
- Translate corporate strategy into operational plans for the Legal Division.
- Manage and forecast operational budgets.
- Effectively manage division resources and operations.
People Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach and mentor legal professionals.
- Establish clear performance goals and drive team performance.
- Develop succession plans and build long-term professional capacity.
Compliance & Reporting
- Maintain an understanding of BPNG Prudential Standards and regulatory requirements.
- Meet BPNG Fit and Proper requirements.
- Ensure compliance with NSL policies and industry best practices.
- Prepare timely compliance reports for Executive Management and Board Committees.
Minimum Requirements
- Degree in Law (LL.B).
- Admission to the PNG Bar and a valid Certificate to Practice Law.
- Minimum of 10 years of legal practice experience in Papua New Guinea.
- Proven litigation experience in the National and Supreme Courts.
- Strong experience in commercial law, contract management and complex conveyancing negotiations.
- Ability to translate complex legal matters into clear and practical advice.
- Ability to meet BPNG Fit and Proper Person requirements.
- Experience or knowledge of finance, banking or superannuation will be an advantage.
- Strong leadership, change-management and stakeholder engagement skills.
- High emotional intelligence, diplomacy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and deliver results.
