About SILAG

The Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance (SILAG) is Papua New Guinea’s leading government training institute, focused on developing ethical public sector leaders. Established in 1954 as the Public Service Institute, SILAG provides diploma, certificate and degree-level programs, often in affiliation with the University of Papua New Guinea.

SILAG delivers training to both the public and private sectors and aims to improve performance in areas such as leadership, governance and information technology. The institute is progressing toward university status under MTDP IV 2023–2027.
