Chinese Government Scholarships 2026/2027 for Papua New Guinea students. Fully funded scholarships for Bachelor, Master and PhD studies in China offered through DHERST PNG. Includes eligibility, requirements, deadline, priority fields, and how to apply.

The Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) invites applications from qualified Papua New Guinean citizens for the Chinese Government Scholarships — 2026/2027 academic year. Scholarships are available for Bachelor's (taught in Chinese), Master’s and Doctoral programmes under the bilateral higher education cooperation with the People’s Republic of China.

Who can apply

Master’s and Doctoral applicants must be PNG citizens in good health. Master’s applicants should be under 35 years old; doctoral applicants should be under 40 years old. Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree (for Master’s) or a Master’s degree (for PhD), and employed applicants must provide a release letter from their employer.

Bachelor’s applicants must be PNG citizens in good health, under 25 years of age, hold a Grade 12 Higher School Certificate with a minimum GPA of 2.5 (certificate not older than 2019), and must present a valid CSCA score report.

  • 21 December 2025
  • 25 January 2026

Required documents (certified photocopies)

  1. Printed copy of the online application form (after submission)
  2. Passport bio-page (valid beyond 15 August 2027)
  3. Academic certificates and transcripts (Grade 12 for Bachelor; degree certificates and transcripts for postgraduate applicants)
  4. Pre-admission document or invitation letter from a Chinese university
  5. Study plan or research proposal (minimum 200 words for undergraduates; 800 words for postgraduates)
  6. Two letters of recommendation (for Master’s/Doctoral applicants)
  7. Foreigner Physical Examination Form (from a recognised clinic)
  8. Police Clearance (issued within 6 months of application)
  9. Language certificates — HSK for Chinese-taught programmes; IELTS/TOEFL for English programmes
  10. Legal guardian documents (if applicant is under 18)
  11. Character reference letter with contact details
  12. Identification: Birth Certificate, National ID, or Driver’s License

Priority fields of study

DHERST recommends applying for programmes in the following priority areas: Sciences, Technology, Agriculture, Medicine, Economics & Management, Education, and History/Liberal Arts/Philosophy.

How to apply

  1. Apply online through the CSC Study in China portal (Programme Category: Type A; Agency Number: 5981).  APPLY HERE >> https://www.csca.cn/
  2. Print the completed online form and prepare two sets of hard copies with all required documents.
  3. Submit the hard copies to the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science & Technology (address below).

Deadline

All applications (online and hard copies) must be received by Wednesday, 28 January 2026. Late, emailed, or faxed applications will not be accepted.

Important notes

  • Bachelor’s programmes are taught fully in Chinese.
  • The scholarship does not cover international or domestic travel expenses.
  • Apply only for the priority fields recommended by DHERST.
  • Monitor your email carefully for communication from universities and DHERST.
  • If you do not receive notification by 20 April 2026, consider your application unsuccessful.
