The Small and Medium Enterprises Corporation (SMEC), a Commercial Statutory Authority under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is mandated by Parliament through the SME Corporation Act 2014 to promote and develop the SME sector in Papua New Guinea. As the lead implementing agency for the National SME Policy 2016 and SME Master Plan 2016-2030, SMEC plays a vital role in fostering sustainable growth for SMEs in the country.
SMEC’s Women Enterprise Development Centre (WEDC) is a redeveloped facility that focuses on the Business Incubation concept, specifically for the garment and textile industry. It also facilitates the Garment and Textile Training Program, aligned with the Garment and Textile National Qualification Framework, recognized by the National Training Council and the Technical Vocational Education and Training Wing of the Department of Education.
