Organizational Relationship:
- Immediate Supervisor: Senior Nursing Officer
- Coordinates With: Senior Nursing Officer, Students, Staff, Colleagues, Vice President, Student Affairs Office
Job Purpose:
Provide high-quality nursing care and well-being to students, staff, and surrounding communities with minimal supervision.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Conduct patient assessments and provide confidential counseling and health advice to university students and staff.
- Observe and interpret patient symptoms, communicating them to the senior nurse or physician for accurate diagnosis and treatment.
- Perform routine procedures (e.g., blood pressure measurements, administering injections) and maintain patient charts.
- Adjust and administer medications and treatments as per senior nurse or physician’s orders.
- Inspect facilities in consultation with the senior nurse, maintain hygiene and safety initiatives, and promote active accident prevention and health awareness programs.
- Attend to and support medical emergencies as directed by the senior nurse or physician.
- Be available for 24-hour on-call service in consultation with the Senior Nursing Officer.
Qualifications:
- Diploma in General Nursing from a recognized institution with a minimum of three years of experience in patient care services.
- Registered with the Nursing Council and holding a valid practice license.
- Certificate of Registration as a Nurse under the Nursing Council Medical Service Act with a valid practicing license.
- Certificate of Good Conduct in the nursing profession with at least two years of proven experience as a nurse in a medical facility.
- First Aid Certificate desirable but not required.
- Experience in trauma and emergency care.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of legal regulations and best practices in healthcare.
- Familiarity with the PNG Medical Services Act and World Health Organization (WHO) requirements.
- Proficient in computer use, spoken and written communication, and interpersonal and questioning skills.
- Strong critical thinking skills to address student and staff issues.
- Ability to withstand work pressure and work after hours.
Additional Requirements:
- Preference for single and male Nursing Officers.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
