The New Guinea Binatang Research Center (BRC) is hiring two passionate and committed Botanical Research Assistants to support our biodiversity and conservation research efforts in Papua New Guinea.
Role Overview
As a Botanical Research Assistant, you will work alongside both local and international scientists in forest ecology, plant taxonomy, and conservation-based research. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to globally significant tropical biodiversity studies and support the preservation of PNG’s exceptional flora.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct fieldwork including plant specimen collection, tagging, and data recording
- Assist in identification and preservation of plant specimens
- Support logistical needs of research projects and data entry
- Collaborate with local communities and other stakeholders
Minimum Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Botany, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field
- Prior experience in botanical fieldwork or herbarium work is highly desirable
- Physically fit and willing to work in remote forest environments
- Strong attention to detail, good work ethic, and teamwork skills
- Basic computer literacy and experience in data handling
