Are you a recent university graduate with a passion for research, public policy, and contributing to the future of Papua New Guinea? The Papua New Guinea National Research Institute (PNGNRI) , in partnership with the Australian National University , is seeking talented individuals to join our team as Public Policy Research Cadets for the National Service Delivery Trends Assessment (NSDTA) project.
About the Role:
The NSDTA project will assess service delivery trends in the health, education, law, and justice sectors across 11 selected provinces and territories. Building on previous landmark studies such as the 2002 Public Expenditure and Service Delivery (PESD) survey and the 2012 Promoting Effective Public Expenditure (PEPE) study, this project will provide valuable insights into improving public services in Papua New Guinea.
As a Public Policy Research Cadet , you will:
- Gain hands-on experience in conducting fieldwork and real-world research.
- Learn advanced research methods and public policy writing under the guidance of experienced mentors.
- Contribute to a nationally significant project that aims to enhance service delivery in critical sectors.
- Work collaboratively with a dynamic team of researchers and stakeholders.
This is a 20-month project-based cadetship , commencing in April 2025 and concluding in December 2026 .

We are seeking aspiring researchers who are motivated, curious, and eager to make a difference. If you have recently graduated or are about to complete your degree, we want to hear from you!
Key Requirements:
- A degree in economics, law, public policy, political science, agriculture, health sciences , or a related discipline.
- Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and confidence in expressing opinions supported by facts.
- Demonstrated ability for independent thinking and problem-solving.
- Solid computer skills and proficiency in using digital tools.
Prior field survey experience is highly desirable.
